This drawing was created by starting with a continuous line underdrawing where I carved out the shapes and shadows with a light pen.  After I went in with black ink to define the drawing and used watercolor to fill in the silhouette and give a rigid garment movement.  A lot of my illustrations around this time were focused on slowly bringing out a figure with layers of ink and paint.  The underdrawing is often my favorite part of an illustration, and this technique allows the underdrawing to give a simple image character rather than being erased or covered up.
